Hey Operation Flourish Fam! It's your girl Kayla; guess what? Today, May 20th, is World Bee Day!
While some might just think "bees = ouch," these little pollinators are actually MVPs when it comes to our food system and, ultimately, achieving adequate nutrition for everyone.
Think about it: from the fruits and veggies that pack a vitamin punch to the nuts and seeds that fuel our bodies, over one-third of the food we eat relies on pollination by bees.
Here's the buzz: without healthy bee populations, the variety and abundance of our food supply would be at risk. That means less access to fresh, nutritious options, especially for those who already struggle with food insecurity.
So, how can we celebrate World Bee Day and show our love for these buzzing buddies?
Here are a few ways to bee the change:
Plant bee-friendly flowers! This creates a smorgasbord for our fuzzy friends and beautifies your space.
Support local beekeepers! Look for honey at farmer's markets or from local apiaries. Bonus points for organic and ethically sourced honey!
Educate yourself about the threats bees face and advocate for sustainable beekeeping practices.
Remember, a healthy planet with thriving bee populations means a healthier you with access to all the delicious, nutritious food you need!
Let's celebrate World Bee Day by taking a stand for these incredible creatures. Who's with me?
Cheerfully yours,
Kayla Myers

I save flower seeds in the fall and then plant them in the spring.
